El procés de localització, difusió i edició del «Curial e Güelfa» (1876-1901)

Abstract

Resum: Les circumstàncies en què, durant la segona meitat del segle xix, fou localitzat el manuscrit de la novel·la medieval Curial e Güelfa, i la contenció que Manuel Milà i Fontanals manifestà en 1876 a l’hora de difondre’n la troballa, varen provocar que alguns estudiosos afirmaren que es tractava d’una falsificació. Per això, el present treball tracta d’aportar llum respecte a les circumstàncies que envoltaren la troballa del Curial per part de l’erudit català: quines reaccions provocà l’anunci; per què no fou editada per Milà i Fontanals; quin paper jugaren, en el procés de difusió de l’obra durant el darrer terç del segle xix, intel·lectuals com ara Antonio Paz y Meliá, cap de Departament de Manuscrits de la Biblioteca Nacional de España, i Antoni Rubió i Lluch, primer editor del Curial e Güelfa. Són qüestions a les quals intentarem donar resposta.

Abstract: The circumstances in which the manuscript of the medieval novel Curial e Güelfa was located during the second half of the 19th century, and the caution that Manuel Milà i Fontanals stated in 1876 when spreading the findings, caused some scholars to claim that it was a falsification. Therefore, the present paper tries to bring light to the circumstances that surrounded the finding of the Curial by the Catalan scholar: what reactions the announcement caused; why it was not published by Milà i Fontanals; which role intellectuals such as Antonio Paz y Meliá, head of the Department of Manuscripts of the Biblioteca Nacional de España, and Antoni Rubió i Lluch, first editor of Curial e Güelfa played in the process of disseminating the work during the last third of the 19th century. These are the questions we will try to respond to.
